The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe

Chairman

Clyde J. R. Estes

Clyde J.R. Estes is the 15th Chairman of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. He was sworn in on October 7th, 2020.

Clyde was first elected to the council in 2016, and served two terms as a council member. Clyde is a descendent of Reuben Estes who was the first Chairman of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe. He is also a relative to former council members Andrew and Clyde Estes.

Clyde began his career of public service in 1997 when he began working as an EMT with the Lower Brule Ambulance Service where he worked until 2000. Then in 2004 he would start working as a seasonal worker with the Lower Brule Wildlife. Then in 2010 he would become the ISS-Supervisor at the Lower Brule Schools, where he would stay until 2016. In 2016 he became a firefighter for the Lower Brule Fire Department, that same here he was elected to the council. Clyde also holds an A&S Degree from the Lower Brule Community College.

Clyde decided to run for Chairman because of serving on the council for four years and seeing the need to create a safer, healthier, more successful tribe. He said that the thing he likes the most is helping people and finding them the resources to resolve their problems. He wants the community to know that we do care and want the best for them. At times it gets hard to address every issue, but giving the people an opportunity to bring their issues forward is what he tries to do.

Clyde likes to see all the accomplishments of his fellow tribal members. He believes that you can do anything you put your mind to especially with the support from friends, family, and the community.
