The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe Red Tail Express Transit Program

In 2016 the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe took over the management of its community transit program. Prior to 2016 the program was managed and run by River Cities Transit, Pierre, SD.

​

Since 2016 the tribe has successfully implemented a local transit program running community based transit services in the communities of Lower and West Brule. Red Tail Express currently has 3-12+2 (14) passenger buses.

​

Red Tail Express also transports clients to off reservation locations when community members are contracted off the reservation for counselling related visits. This service is generally done in partnership with tribal health related programs and they run Monday through Friday.

​

In the fall of 2021 Red Tail Express will began building a new 8 stall bus storage facility. The new facility will be located at mid-point between Lower and West Brule communities. The facility will have offices and a heated stall where the buses can be periodically cleaned and washed.

7:00 am - 7:30 pm

If you wish to use the service you must first purchase a ticket from the Red Tail Office, room 143 in the tribal offices. Or, you can purchase a ticket from the tribal C-Store. The tickets cost $5-$10 each. Elderly tickets are $5.00 as well. One ride for the general public is $1.00 per ride and the elderly are charged $.50 per ride. All our transit buses are equipped with wheel chair lifts.

All children weighing less than 40 pounds must be secured in the appropriate seat. Any questions can be answered by the driver or you can call Red Tail Dispatch at 605-208-1300 with a ride request or questions.
